What Do Those Flags Mean?

"Rise to Office, War, Dictatorship"- Senior Guard member
Christine Nguyen proudly presents the opener flag.
Every year, the Color Guard works with a different set of flags. What prompted Mr. Kaldy to choose this particular set for this year's "Veni Vidi Vici" show?

"The flag for the last song adds visual impact," said Mr. Kaldy, "and it has a V on it." For the other songs, "the colors complement the show and the mood. The gold flag complements Cleopatra's costume."

"Cleopatra"- The ballad flag, presented by junior Guard
member Sherilyn Thach.
Guard member Sherilyn Thach said the opener flag reminds her of the sunset."It's really pretty, and I like it," she added. "The ballad flag symbolizes royalty and fits the title of Cleopatra. The red part of the closer flag represents death, so people die."
There certainly is bloodshed in "Veni Vidi Vici," as
Julius Caesar, Daven Lagman's character, and Thach's
character all die at the end of the show.

"With the mellophone solo at the beginning and the sunrise in the flag, the opener is Caesar's call to arms," explained Color Guard Instructor Bruce Paulson. "In the second song, the bright gold represents Cleopatra's wealth. For the closer flag, the bright silver gives life to Caesar, because the Romans do pray to him. But the red accent is there to forebode his imminent death."
