The first day of band camp introduces new members to the marching band and gives them a taste of how the season will play out. This year, Mr. Kaldy decided to replace the usual M&Ms Name Game with the Birthday Game, where the whole band lines up in order of birthdate and forms smaller groups. Everyone then memorizes the names and birthdates of all their group members. According to Mr. Kaldy, this new icebreaker game helps band members get to know each other better.

Ferly ('11, Tenor Sax) says "You must be this tall to join marching band." Alvin ('11, Trumpet) does not qualify.

Musically, the band accomplished much today. "The freshmen learned a lot," said Mr. Kaldy. "They probably don't know it, but they did learn a lot." Indeed, the band was able to run through a few pep band songs and the first movement of the show "Veni Vidi Vici" during the afternoon rehearsal on the green.

Some of the section leaders chipped their nails adding lanyards to the flip folders. All for a good cause.
